The bed in the room on the left
was where you waited
in dread for the dead
to crash through window frames
at night, splintered wood, broken glass
They will rise from their graves
on Judgment Day
he intoned, as you lay
still as a stone
You slept on a pillow
of fear
and woke
in winding sheet
